Welcome to the KISH Technology Workspace!

Why a workspace?

The tech survey results from last year clearly showed us that KISH staff members want to learn more about technology. As a tech team and through the Technology Professional Learning Community (PLC), we find it difficult to provide learning opportunities that meet the wishes and schedules of everyone on staff. We thought that this might be an alternative that would work for those who like to explore on their own given some guidance and ideas along the way. Using a PBWorks Workspace (wiki), we can provide tutorials, handouts, links to useful sites, and files to download as well as the opportunity to add comments and create additional pages yourselves. It provides for us an online community for learning and sharing what we've learned!

What will you find here?

  • Basic How To's and Resources for Using this Workspace
  • Learning Web 2.0 - a self paced set of discovery activities based on 23 Things to Learn about Web 2.0

(to explore what new online technologies have to offer for us and our classes)

  • Ideas for Where to Go From Here (once you've looked at the main ones we suggest trying - please add other suggestions as you find some!)
  • Printable Handouts (anything on these pages are available in printer friendly versions)

What is expected of you?

First of all, remember that there is so much technology out there it can be overwhelming! We're not asking that you necessarily try everything. This is a resource available to you so that 1) you can get an idea of how different technologies might be used in a classroom setting and 2) you can have access to the tools to try it on your own. Even if it gives you a taste for it and you decide you'd like to try it with some one on one or small group help, then it has served its purpose! A lot of times, people find that they go to a workshop on something and then forget about it because they don't have a chance to use it. This way, the tools will be available for you when you need them.

What we'd like to see you try...

  • Some of the activities in Learning Web 2.0 will be requested of us (ex. editing the school calendar)
  • Take the risk to try something new, even if it is only one thing!
  • Give us some ideas or suggestions about other ways we can help (send us an e-mail or chat with us sometime!)
  • If you find good links, resources, or other free or online technologies to try, add them! Create a how to or add it to the Where to Go Next page!
  • Share resources!
